What are the success secrets and skills required to ignite your sales and marketing? How can you be inspired to achieve your goals in life and business? As entrepreneurs, we face these questions constantly, always looking for the edge, the secret, the magic line, whatever it is that just might be the difference.

The fact is ‘the secret’ is usually something different for everyone (after all each of us resonate with different ideas based on our experiences). This is why attending events and listening to successful people’s advice is always a good idea. You never know what you’re going to pick up.

This month’s Atlanta Jaycees meeting was a great example of this. It was highlighted by Antonio Smith, best-selling author of “The Sellionaire”, who shared his personal story and his keys to success. He shared a lot of great thoughts and concepts. I thought I’d share a few, along with some reflections of my own.

Identify your target

This is huge. In any business, it’s vital to know who you’re selling and marketing to. Ask yourself the question, “What’s my job?” Learn how to connect with your audience and provide solutions for those people. Without an exact target, your value may not reach the right crowd.

Get in front of more people

With technology now, the opportunity is there to get in front of more people in a leveraged way. Learn how to use it to your advantage. Understand the best ways to leverage your time and efforts. Get creative and figure out how you can promote yourself and your products, services, ideas to a growing group.

Follow-up with people

Ever heard the line “The fortune is in the follow-up”? This actually makes sense on so many levels. People usually don’t buy right away, it takes time to build a relationship and trust. Then, once you have a customer, if you continue that relationship and build more trust, you can create sales loyalty with that person. That’s what good business is all about.

Entertainment vs. Education

This was one of my favorite nuggets from the night. This is a big contrast between those who are extremely successful and those who aren’t. Focusing on education rather than entertainment. Focus on constantly listening to motivating and empowering audios, watching inspiring videos, reading books on success in life and in your industry. That’s what makes such a huge difference.

Antonio shared examples of millionaires he’s met and worked with that are still learning new things every day. It’s incredible, every successful person I’ve met has said the same thing. It doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy entertainment once in a while, but be aware of how much time you’re spending on it.

Ask yourself, what am I learning on a daily basis that’s teaching me what I need to know to reach my goals faster?

Don’t give up before you make it to the top

We’ve all heard this before, but how many people truly believe it? If you have a dream or a goal, don’t give up until you’ve made it, don’t give yourself the option of failure. Stay consistent, keep going and don’t stop until you’ve achieved your goal.

There were so many great insights but I can’t share them all here. If you’re ready for more wisdom, Antonio’s book, “The Sellionaire”, is perfect for anyone looking to sharpen their sales and marketing, or to ‘create your own job’ in this economy. It’s full of tips and secrets not only on how to sell and market more effectively, but also on success, motivation, inspiration, and mindset. (I paged through it for a while today, it’s awesome.) You can find more information on his site here: www.thesellionaire.com

I really enjoyed Antonio’s presentation, but what was even better was talking with him afterwards. He’s an awesome guy, super genuine and extremely insightful. You can see why he’s achieved so much success. It was cool, he even shared a ‘bonus success secret’ with me that I wasn’t expecting! It pays to get around successful people! You just never know what kind of ‘secrets’ you’ll learn from people who are further down the road to success.

My challenge for you today is to make it a point this week to get around someone more successful than you. Send an email, set up an appointment. Make a phone call. Go to an event. Connect! And when you’re connecting with that person, be curious, be interested, share from your own experience, ask questions, and most of all, listen! It will start to pay off for you :)

To your success,

Andrew Kimball

PS Speaking of success, are you ready to learn about how to be successful on Facebook? (hint: you don’t even have to know how to sell – but if you do, and you read Antonio’s book, you’ll make a lot more…oh and be sure to authorize the app ;)

A ‘Comedic’ Lesson In Posture

Nobody likes to get called out. Nobody likes being questioned, minimalized, or put on the spot.

Have you ever felt like you were getting ‘heckled’ in your life? Like people around you kept saying things to you, doubting you, taking shots at you?

Maybe this was a hit to your self-esteem. Maybe it caused you to lack belief in yourself or what you were doing. Maybe it inspired you to step your game up and disarm the other person’s nonsense.

Can you think of a time when this happened to you?

How about at work? (you get called out by your coworker for something that happened that wasn’t your fault)

Or maybe at family events? (your aunt questions whether you’re in the right career or making the right choice ‘going back to school’)

In your social life? (your friend is upset because you don’t do something they expected from you)

There are all sorts of ways to handle life’s challenges, but today’s lesson is in POSTURE.

I just watched this video of a comedian getting heckled on stage. How do you think he responded to the ‘criticism’? You’ll have to watch to find out (warning: this is priceless :)

Did you get the lesson in POSTURE? Did you notice HOW the comedian slowly and patiently disarms this dumb guy and shows him he’s out of line? And in the process he gained a ton of respect from the guy as he realized being a comic isn’t that easy. Totally awesome…

I think the lesson is that we shouldn’t be afraid to step up and put other people in their place. It doesn’t have to be in a ‘mean’ way, but there are times when it’s appropriate to call someone out who’s being stupid in the way they talk to you. The fun part is doing it with a natural confidence, strong belief in your own skills, and some clever language.

Can you think of an example of how you could cleverly put a ‘heckler’ from your life in their place? Feel free to leave your thoughts and comments, especially how this relates specifically to you in your life.

PS Tired of being ‘heckled’ in your life? at your job? by the government? Check this out…

So my Uncle Frank continues his epic ride across the country (Oregon to Florida – 4,300 miles in 77 days). Yesterday’s stop? Dyersville, Iowa. Field of Dreams. (read more on his blog here)

It got me thinking about ‘dreams‘. But not just what we dream or how we dream, but specifically where we dream.

I think we all have our own “Field of Dreams” (or maybe even ‘fields’?). You know, that meaningful place that has a dreamy quality of sorts. It brings about some nostalgia and takes us back to a time when life was different, full of possibility and the unknown. It connects us with our ‘past selves’. There’s just something about going back there. It’s like, you’re in the same place, but you can’t go back.

“Field of Dreams” is one of my all-time favorite movies (for several reasons, more on this another time) mainly because of the nostalgia that it invokes.

There’s something about that place. And we all have those kinds of places, whether we go visit them regularly or not, whether we live close to them or not. What is that place for you? What kinds of memories and dreams does it bring to mind?

Sometimes these places can be a source of pain, making it difficult for us to look back. They remain as physical reminders of false hopes, bad memories, or unrealized dreams.

But the thing is, you can decide at any point to let go of that pain and recreate past memories in a sense. Nothing about the past MUST have an impact on the future. (Sure, a lot of times it does, but it doesn’t have to.)

So where do you go to dream now? What kinds of places really inspire you to dream about your future? How often do you go there?

Now maybe you’re thinking, “I don’t really dream much anymore” or “My life is pretty much set, why bother?” I don’t blame you, it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day of life. It’s much easier to not think much beyond next week or maybe even tomorrow.

But dreams are powerful. They can create change in ourselves. They can ignite us into action.

I want challenge you to really think about one area of your life that you’d like to change, that you’d like to be better. Think about one thing that’s not where you want it to be and ask yourself “How can I turn this around? How can I turn this into a positive? What’s my dream outcome for this aspect of my life?”

Maybe it’s something in your relationships. Maybe it’s something with your job. Maybe it’s something spiritual. Whatever it is, you have the ability to change it by reshaping your thoughts, and ultimately creating a new outcome.

So that’s my challenge for you today. I’ll be back with more thoughts on ‘dreams‘ tomorrow. Stay tuned :)

To your pursuit of your dreams,

I was just listening to an audio today, part of a coaching program I’m going through, and the topic was CONFIDENCE. It’s one of those often misunderstood concepts. What ‘is’ it? What does it take to ‘have’ it? How can you ‘get more’ of it? How do you ‘keep’ it?

Confidence is a belief. Belief in yourself, who you are, what you’re doing, what you’re about, belief that you can achieve or overcome.

The interesting thing is, so often we let doubts, fears, and illusions get in the way of our ‘belief’, which damages or diminishes our self-confidence. Where does this come from?

Well, lots of places: outside/external influences (society, peers, pressure to conform, fit in, fall in line), internal dialogues (our own negative thoughts, limiting beliefs – previously held beliefs that prevent other more powerful beliefs to guide us).

It’s really fascinating when you start to recognize what’s limiting you, holding you back, and how AWARENESS of the limitations can move you forward. Becoming aware of them, then releasing those beliefs to replace them with more empowering beliefs, that can build your confidence. The more you recognize barriers, and the more you overcome them, the more confidence builds.

Now how do you keep confidence and continue building it? It comes down to limiting negative and disempowering influences, recognizing how they affect you, and learning to simply not be affected by them. This takes time and practice, but the more you build your self-confidence and have success, the more you can stack that confidence on success.

Those are just a few thoughts on the topic of CONFIDENCE. How is YOUR confidence level? What are you MOST confident about? Or least confident about? What’s one limiting belief you have right now that’s affecting your confidence?

If you’re curious to learn more about the process of overcoming limiting beliefs, steering clear of negative outside influences, and exponentially increasing your CONFIDENCE, you may want to check out this resource (I’ll warn you though, it’s extremely powerful :)

Click here to view the embedded video.

(Check out Erwin’s inspiring video here)

Oh, and one more thought…(forgot to include this example)…and a thought-provoking question for you…

Click here to view the embedded video.

So there you have it, some thoughts while driving, just make sure if you’re freeing your mind from what others think you set a good example and wear your seatbelt (just had to mention this since I know my family will call me out on this anyway). But other than that, do what you want, don’t care what other people think, and BE FREE.

Wow what an awesome event this week with the Atlanta Jaycees. It was a huge turnout at Park Tavern with LOTS of new faces, several new members, and of course, a special appearance by none other than Miss United States, Jessica Black.

Before I get into Jessica’s presentation (and her captivating theme: “The Power of Words”), I should point out a little about what the Jaycees are all about. Not only is it a great place to network and connect with other young entrepreneurs, this group is all about giving back to the community. This is especially evident in their event schedule this coming month:

“Hero for a Day” – July 16th – Georgia’s largest field day event for children infected or affected by HIV/AIDS.

“Cocktails for Kidneys” – July 21st – Young Professionals fundraiser benefitting Camp Independence, a six day overnight camp for medically fragile children and adolescents with kidney disease or who have heart, liver, lung, or kidney transplants.

Their commitment to charities and giving back is just one reason why it’s my #1 favorite young professionals group in Atlanta. It’s awesome, you should seriously check it out.

Ok so back to my date with Miss United States (haha ok not really, but I did have a great conversation with her afterwards, she’s super cool, more on that in a minute).

Now you may be thinking, “Oh geez, another beauty queen, probably with an entourage, PR staff, people telling her what to do and how to act (remember Kramer on that Seinfeld episode? Classic), just like all the others…right?” Not exactly. I mean, I’m not a big fan of beauty pageants (sure I’ll watch for a few minutes, you know for the talent show part haha), and beauty queens in general. I don’t pay attention to this stuff. That’s what made this Jaycees event so interesting. Jessica is the real deal, here’s why…

Her “off the cuff” speech (she talked non-stop with no script for like 30 minutes and it was all good stuff) was centered around this video (only 9 million some views!):

Click here to view the embedded video.

Knowing “The Power of Words” and combining that with her life motto ”Dare to Dream take the Journey”, Jessica has had some amazing success already, both personally and professionally. She’s sold for IBM, modeled for top dress designers, and helped raise tons of money for local and national charities. Cool huh?

Totally. What’s really cool though, is when you talk with her, you realize that she’s super down to earth, genuine, authentic, and pretty much the complete opposite of the stereo-typical blonde bombshell beauty queen. (lol)

"The Power of Words" - Miss United States 2010, Jessica Black

What I admire most about her is that not only is she dedicated to giving back and helping others, but she has clearly found her purpose in life and is truly living a life in line with that purpose. It’s cool to see. I encourage you to learn more about Jessica and the many charities she’s a part of.

Ok, so I’m not the one “Freewheelin’ Across America” this summer (as much as I’d love to be! haha), but I wanted to pass along a link of someone who is.

It’s my Uncle Frank, and he’s riding his bike from Portland, Oregon to Jacksonville Beach, Florida (4,300 miles!!!) over 77 days. He’s quite the cyclist, and has done some serious riding over the last several years, but this appears to be the most exciting and challenging trip yet! Here’s more about the ride.

This will be an amazing adventure to track this summer. Our family will all be following along (even my Grandma who continues to learn the Internet!) and I wanted to invite you to do the same. Here’s the blog.

And I’m curious, have you ever thought of doing any kind of cross-country type of adventure? How would you do it? (I think I’d go either in a convertible or a VW bus, but more on that another time :)) Would you hike, bike, (maybe hitch-hike? lol), ride, drive, cruise, boat, train, bus, OTHER?! Oh, and what continent? (It doesn’t have to be just the US).

Anyway, just a quick shout-out to my Uncle Frank, have an awesome ride and we look forward to hearing the stories along the way!
